Like the glass, the aluminum is a material rarely used in the common constructions. The standards only mention aluminum as a material with structural functions, but a nice documentation about that is given by CNR (national research council). This material is appreciated for its lightness and extreme resistance to the aggressive atmospheric agents. For what concern its lightness, the major use of this aluminum is in the large span structure with trusses, while its resistance to corrosion makes it a precious material for structures located in aggressive environment, like pool roofs, bridges and off-shore structures. Aluminum is slowly widening its use through the steel structures thanks to its capacity to be recycled. It’s the adapt material for certain structures, and surely one of the most modern structural material on the market.
